What is AINP- International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream?

The International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream (IGEIS) is targeted for qualified international graduates from outside of Canada who want to launch innovative and start-up businesses in Alberta. The nominees can apply for permanent residence to the Government of Canada – IRCC.

What are the requirements of the IGEIS?

Area Requirement
Education Have completed at least 2 years of full-time education from a designated post-secondary institution in Alberta, resulting in a degree or diploma and a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP)
Work Permit Have a PGWP valid for at least 2 years at the time of the submission of Expression of Interest (EOI)
Language Minimum English at CLB 7 or French NCLC 7 for each language skill
Business Establishment Must establish a new business or buy an existing business in Alberta with a minimum 34% ownership. The proposed business type must not be on the list of ineligible businesses. For detailed information, please contact Springwind Immigration Consulting Service at 647-869-6678
Work Experience Have a minimum of 6 months of full-time work experience that can be a combination of actively managing or owning the business or equivalence. Equivalence include experience with a business incubator or business accelerator, or completion of entrepreneurship program courses. The following adaptability factors will greatly increase the chance of receiving a Request to submit Business Application:

Economic benefit Can provide economic benefit to Alberta though: job creation, economic sector, business location (e.g., rural), business succession, investment, developed intellectual property, partnership or support from business incubator/accelerator, venture capital or angel investor
Age 21 to 49 years
Spouse Your spouse or common-law partner has at least one of the following:
  • at least 1 year of continuous full-time employment in Alberta
  • completed at least 2 years of full-time study at a post-secondary institution in Alberta
  • Minimum English at CLB5 or French at NCLC 5 in all language abilities.
Alberta relative You, or your spouse or common-law partner, have one or more relatives living full-time in Alberta. Relatives include parent, step-parent, child, step-child, siblings, step-siblings.

The AINP is currently accepting Expression of Interests (EOI) under the IGEIS. The information provided in the EOI, the Business Proposal Summary and Net Worth Worksheet will be assessed, and points will be awarded by the AINP based on the IGEIS Points Grid. Alberta may select candidates with the highest-ranking points and invite them to submit a Business Application.
