For foreign nationals, The 100% Ownership Stream is designed for business entrepreneurs interested in starting a new business or buying an existing business with 100% ownership in Prince Edward Island.

The Partial Ownership Stream is designed for business entrepreneurs who want to become a part owner in a business on Prince Edward Island with 33 1/3% ownership or invest $1,000,000 CAD in the equity of the business.

The Work Permit Stream offers a way to come to Prince Edward Island on a work permit prior to making the investment to provide business entrepreneur time to settle and integrate into the business environment. The applicant must either start or purchase a business with at least 33 1/3% equity in a PEI business or make a $1,000,000 CAD equity investment in a business.

Upon receiving approval from Immigration Services, the applicant will sign the necessary agreements, including an escrow agreement, and provide Prince Edward Island with a conditionally refundable deposit of $100,000 CAD.

The applicant must meet the criteria of the stream and sign a performance agreement outlining the terms and conditions before receiving nomination for permanent residency to PEI

 

What are the requirements of Business Impact Category?

To receive approval under three streams, the applicant must meet the program criteria, minimum net worth and investment thresholds

If the applicants score 50 or more they are good to go under the Business Impact Category. Unless there is a difference between the score the applicants give themselves and the score given by Immigration Services, the assessment by Immigration Services will prevail

Must be 100% business ownership.

Must control not less than 33 1/3% of the equity in the business or make an equity investment in the business of at least $1,000,000 CAD.

Must sign an escrow agreement with the Province of Prince Edward Island and make a $100,000 CAD refundable deposit.

Must sign a performance agreement with the Province of Prince Edward Island.

Must meet the age, education, work experience, adaptability and language skills (total scores at least 50 or more points

Have valid scored a minimum band score of 5 on the Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLBPT) or equivalent IELTS Test. Below CLBPT 5 will be required to sign a language deposit agreement and make a $20,000 deposit.

Must submit a business proposal, a settlement proposal and a business plan detailing.

Minimum verifiable personal net worth of $400,000

Must make a minimum $150,000 CAD investment to start or purchase an eligible business in Prince Edward Island.

Must provide active and on-going management of the business at least one year from within Prince Edward Island.
Must not include a redemption option in the terms of the investment.
