What is AINP- Alberta Opportunity Stream?

The Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) is for temporary foreign workers who are already working full-time and have a full-time job offer from an Alberta employer in an eligible occupation. Candidates must have a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or hold one of the accepted LMIA exemption work permit. The nominees can apply for permanent residence to the Government of Canada – IRCC.

What are the requirements of the Alberta Opportunity Stream?

These are generally the requirements of this program.

  • The applicant must have a valid work permit – not implied status, automatic extension of status, or restoration status.
  • The valid work permit is based on one of the following:
    • a positive LMIA
    • a LMIA exemption for workers based on exemptions determined by IRCC
    • a Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) held by a graduate of an Alberta Advanced Education publicly funded post-secondary institution
  • Working or have a job offer in an eligible occupation NOC 0, A, B, C or D. For details of Ineligible Occupations, please call Springwind Immigration Consulting Service at 647-748-0188.
  • For PGWP holders, your occupation must also be related to your field of study in Alberta.
    • If you started attending your Alberta credential program on or after April 1, 2019 and you have completed an Advanced Education-approved one-year post diploma certificate or post-baccalaureate certificate, your occupation must also be related to your previous post-secondary field of study outside Canada.
  • Meet the language requirement:
    • For occupations in NOC 0, A or B, minimum CLB 5 for each English language skill, or NCLC 5 for each French language skill
    • For occupations in NOC C or D, minimum CLB 4 for each English language skill, or NCLC 4 for each French language skill
    • For NOC 3413 (nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates), minimum CLB 7 for each English language skill, or NCLC 7 for each French language skill.
  • Applicants must have completed a minimum of high school.
  • For PGWP holders, the applicant’s credential must be issued by an Alberta Advanced Education publicly funded post-secondary institution. Eligible Alberta Credentials include:
    • If you started attending your Alberta credential program on or after April 1, 2019, your credential must be one of the following Alberta Advanced Education approved credentials:
      • certificate or post-diploma certificate or post-baccalaureate certificate (minimum 1 year in length)
      • diploma program (minimum 2 years in length)
      • undergraduate bachelor's degree
      • graduate level degree, certificate, or diploma
    • If you started attending your Alberta credential program before April 1, 2019, your credential must be one of the following Alberta Advanced Education approved credentials:
      • post-diploma certificate or post-baccalaureate certificate (minimum 1 year in length)
      • diploma program (minimum 2 years in length)
      • undergraduate bachelor's degree
      • graduate level degree, certificate, or diploma
  • The applicant must meet the work experience requirement:
    • a minimum of 12 months full-time work experience in your current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months, or
    • a minimum of 24 months of full-time work experience in your current occupation in Canada or abroad within the last 30 months or both – this work experience can be a combination of experience gained in Alberta, in Canada (outside Alberta) or abroad, or
    • For PGWP holders, a minimum of 6 months full-time work experience in your current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months.
    • The work experience cannot be gained while studying in Canada and doing co-op work placement or internship as part of a study program, unless you are a PGWP holder who completed during paid co-op work terms as a part of your program of study at an Alberta post-secondary institution.
    • All applicants must have required licensing, registration, and certification to perform their occupation.
  • All applicants must have a bona fide full-time job offer or employment contract from an Alberta employer. The job offer or employment contract must offer:
    • continuous, paid work
    • full-time work
    • employment for 12 months or more
    • work in your current occupation
    • wages and benefits that meet provincial minimum wage
